What Didn’t Happen in 2012

Happy 2013! Instead of ruminating on what I’d like to accomplish this year I’d like to briefly reflect on what didn’t happen in 2012.

I didn’t run a successful first marathon (in my opinion). I didn’t celebrate getting married, having a baby, or any other major life event at 32. I didn’t even find Prince Charming. I didn’t manage to stay running injury free. I didn’t toast a new job or a promotion and I didn’t purchase my first home. I didn’t spend as much time with family and friends as I should have. I didn’t do this and I didn’t do that…

Lots of didn’ts, but only one DID in 2012.

I DID find myself.

I found out that I am stronger than I was a year ago. I found out that I know what I want out of life and how to get it. I found out that what believe in defines me 100%. I found out who I am, deep down, through 1,100 miles of soul searching journeys – most of the time alone. I found out that I am deeply inspired by seemingly simple things.

I found out that 2013 has a lot in store for me and I will leave no rock unturned. I hope 2013 treats you just the same.

I wholeheartedly want to inspire where I am able to and also be inspired. To kick off the first Friday of 2013 I’ll be starting a weekly series called the “Friday Fartlek” to highlight new runners in our virtual (and sometimes real life) community or those who are tackling new distances in their running journeys. To really start the new year right, I’ll be introducing you to TWO runners who I hope you will find just as devoted, determined, and inspiring as I do. Stay tuned!

If you are interested in contributing on any given Friday please send me a comment on my “Contact Me” page.
